O una SHINKEN de aleaciones 1060 steel, diseñadas para la practica del Battodo o realizar pruebas de corte denominadas Tameshigiri es necesario que sepas lo siguiente:
El IAIDO es un arte marcial japonés relacionado con el desenvainado y el envainado de la katana. Utiliza para sus practicas una IAITO
El Iaito, menos célebre que la katana, es un sable japonés diferente, pero con parecidos razonables. Se trata de un arma larga que se usa para la práctica del arte marcial que conocemos como Iaido. La diferencia más notoria es que está construida con materiales más livianos y no posee filo.
El Iaido se basa en el envainado y desenvainado de la espada, arte que se practica utilizando el ya citado Iaito. Es un arte que mejora la destreza mental, exige aprendizaje y optimiza la velocidad de reacción en una lucha.
Eso sí, hay que recordar ciertos detalles sobre el Iaito que considerarás cuando compres:
La hoja no esta afilada y no debes intentar sacarle filo, ya que su propósito es el de la practica sin corte.

Los kata de iaidō constan de cuatro fases, pero que toman formas distintas según la situación:
- Nukitsuke: Desenvainado rápido; retirar el sable de su vaina (saya), llevando ésta hacia atrás (saya biki). Es una parte importante, se dice que es la vida del Iaidō.
- Kiritsuke: Corte al oponente.
- Chiburi: Escurrimiento de la sangre que queda en la hoja.
- Nōtō: Volver el sable a la vaina.
Se pone énfasis en la fluidez con la que deben darse estas cuatro fases. También son importantes aspectos como la precisión, el equilibrio, la amplitud de los movimientos o la atención, entre otras muchas cosas. El Iaidō trata de preparar al practicante para poder desempeñar estas acciones en cualquier momento y situación: de pie, sentado, caminando, hacia diferentes direcciones, contra varios adversarios, estando preparado para el combate, siendo sorprendido, etc.
Battojutso: Se denomina battōjutsu a las técnicas de desenvainar la espada y cortar.
El battōjutsu surge de los enfrentamientos casuales, no del campo de batalla, sino de momentos en los que el bushi, o guerrero recibía un ataque de forma imprevista. En estos momentos se revelaba el “Sakki”, que significa “sed de sangre” y reaccionaban rápidamente desenvainando y cortando, poniendo a salvo su vida o la de su superior.
Un cálido ejemplo del domino del sable al cortar una manzana sin tirarla al piso procurando hacer un corte ligero y eficiente.
